Michelle Bernstein chef/owner of Sra. Martinez and Michy’s in Miami was kind enough to spend some time with us at Sra. Martinez.

Bernstein was previously a co-host of the Food Network series Melting Pot and was once in a battle on Iron Chef America versus Bobby Flay, from which she emerged victorious. She has since appeared on numerous shows, including as a guest judge on Top Chef.

What to do with Party Leftovers!? Crudites get re-made with Linguine and Feta Cheese!

064what to do with leftovers

I hate to waste food. So after a recent party instead of just tossing the leftovers, I made an effort to to come up with a meal that utilized the crudites that were left.

I didn’t want another raw food meal or a stir fry rice thingy.

This reminds me a little of pot roast; vegetarian style , of course.

It kind of looks like that, don’t you think?

I just sauteed the vegetables as they were, added them to some linguine added feta cheese, balsamic vinegar and Ghee. You could also use butter.

This was a complete meal and quite different from the ingredients original incarnation.

My secret ingredient ? Live music in my kitchen!

Fried Cauliflower with Lime and Sea Salt

pantry diaries fried cauliflower 042

This little discovery was made at the home of my dear friend M. She had me over for a dinner party one evening and really pulled out the stops. I will leave the trout and the cilantro potatoes for another day, however, the fried cauliflower really got my attention. And it was a good excuse to buy a deep fryer.

This was a new presentation for me. I’ve had fried cauliflower and other veggies before but they were always coated with an egg and flour coating or tempura batter. This was simply, deep fried cauliflower; vegetable oil, cauliflower. That’s it.

It is served with lime wedges and sea salt. Squeeze on the lime, sprinkle with salt and enjoy as a snack or as a side dish.
